Diesel fuel production boosted with sulphur-free line
Pöyry assisted Neste Jacbos Oy, the engineering division of Neste Oil Oyj, with the construction of a revolutionary new production line for Neste Oil's refinery located in Porvoo, Finland.
Production line 4 uses residue oil to produce sulphur-free, clean motor fuels, particularly diesel fuel. While the overall capacity of the oil refinery remains the same, this new production line allows Neste Oil to increase to a considerable degree the refining of very profitable products, such as sulphur-free diesel fuel, from Russian or other types of sulphur-free crude oil.
Neste Oil estimates that this technologically important project, which was dubbed "Diesel Project", will allow it to increase the production of diesel by one million tonnes per year.
The fuel meets the latest environmental requirements in Europe and North America and is part of Neste Oil's on-going efforts to produce high-quality, low-emission traffic fuels.
Production line 4 covers an area of approximately 4.5 hectares. Start-up of the production line commenced in June 2007.
Pöyry's involvement started in 2003, and the responsibilities included providing engineering services for the residue hydrocracking unit. Pöyry also took part in material coordination and expediting, process design, instrumentation, automation and field engineering.
